The River Rock is located in down town Chatham along side many other night life establishments. The River Rock occasionally hosts live bands for special events but mainly serves as a dance club. It often holds teen dances to give the 19 and under crowd a place to go and enjoy themselves.
The Venue has been around for a few years and was originally a movie theatre.
It had closed for some years, then reopened in June 2019.
Chatham Connection:Mainman Matt Antaya is from Chatham-Kent.
Notes: Ask founding member Matt Antaya about his alt-rock band Self Cynic and his answer may surprise you. Songwriter and lead singer, Antaya, conceived his project as perhaps the opposite of a band. Self Cynic is an evolving experiment whose rotating lineup aims to demonstrate that a collection of songs will communicate their character despite varying musicians and arrangements.
Matt began writing music at age 12, then went on to University (Waterloo) and spent allot of time working in studios, eventually making his way to Montreal.

Chatham-Kent Connection:Jack Dalton (Guitarist/song writer) was raised in Erieau, moved around the U.S.A. and now resides in Detroit.
The Dalton family is well known in Erieau, as Mr. Dalton was known for years as Detroit’s Irish Tenor. The whole family are very musical and have entertained there neighbours with playing, singing and dancing. Jack was a member of the Dalton Boys, with his brothers Wally & Dan. The trio was booked to open Randy Sparks’ new club, Ledbetter’s, in October of 1963.
Brother Dan Dalton also had a great time in the music scene as a member of the Back Porch Majority, playing banjo and 12-string guitar.
Discography 1968– Self Titled 1969 – Atmosphere 2008 – Love Heals: The Complete Recordings
Colours launched onto the scene in 1968 with a stunningly glorious psychedelic masterpiece of L.A studio wizardry. A super group before the name was coined, Colours was the brainchild of Gary Montgomery & Jack Dalton, two hard-working, former Motown songwriters who also penned songs for The Turtles, Nino & April and The Moon. This magical mystery tour-de-force of psychedelic Beatlesque pop also features the talents of Derek & The Dominos bassist Carl Radle.
This first-ever CD issue of their long-out-of-print albums (Colours and Atmosphere) is supplemented by long-lost 67 Dalton & Montgomery recordings cut just months before they formed Colours. 1969’s Atmosphere features former Beach Boy David Marks around the same time he was a member of The Moon another band with many connections to Colours.
The 16-page colour booklet also includes rare, unpublished photos and comprehensive liner notes that feature the participation of original band members. Now Sounds, the new imprint from Cherry Red, was established by Steve Stanley, producer of over 50 Rev – Ola titles.
_____________
Notes: Colours also had members from Derek & The Dominos and The Beach Boys in the band. Signed to Dot on the basis of their sitar-and-bagpipe-hued novelty 45, Brother Lou’s Love Colony. Cooked up, at times, under the all too discernable influence of the Fab Four, Colours is unashamedly Pepper-esque in its use of lavish arrangements recorded in no-expense- spared fashion with the 36-piece LA Philharmonic. By contrast, Atmosphere is a darker, less generic and more subdued recording. Love Heals also includes Dalton & Montgomery’s White Whale 45 and three previously unreleased demos which pre-date Colours’ mid-1967 formation. (Source)

Band: Buckets Of Release: Self-Titled EP Year: 2008 Genre: Indie Rock, pop and country.
Chatham Connection: Wes Moore and Corey Wells are from Chatham. Wes previously played drums in local bands such as the ‘Beat Junkies’ and ‘Pocket Muu Muus’. He moved away after his school years.
Band Biography
Buckets Of are a rock/country/art/space 5-piece that formed in Toronto, Canada. The group started when Corey Wells and Meaghan Bent began mashing together country and rock. Meaghan was learning drums and Wells was/is already a gnarly guitarist with Ancestors. The two wrote a handful of catchy ditties and in Summer ’07 synth-ist Katie McLeod (aka: KTron816) joined and filled in the spaces with the flowery imagery and spaciness that would develop the band’s style. The trio formed as Buckets Of. After recording bottomless demos in November ’07 at The Pound in Montreal drummer-turned-bassist Wes Moore (Lunchmeat) became the engine of the music with driving county/punk bass lines. Most recently, Tyler McPherson has joined playing pedal steel and baritone guitar. He adds the class to our stage show, both in dress and musicianship.
Instrumentation Corey Wells – Guitar, Vocals
Meaghan Bent – Drums, Harmonica, Vocals
Katie McLeod – Keys, Synth, Tambourine, Back Vocals
Wes Moore – Bass, Back Vocals
Tyler McPherson – Pedal Steel, Baritone Guitar
Cory & Wes also play in the Toronto band ‘ancestors’, that is made up of all Chathamites. This is a heavier, hardcore band. Check them out online here.

About Dan: Guitarist extraordinaire Dan Noordermeer has also been performing in the “Dave Murphy Band” for almost a decade, and continues to dazzle audiences with his formidable talents. Originally from Chatham, Dan now resides in Hamilton. Dan is known for his Samson-like mane of hair and his wicked sense of humour. Unlikely as it seems, Dan was a full time country musician for many years before joining the band. But for those familiar with his playing it’s no surprise, since he has an uncanny ability to play every style of music with incredible authenticity, passion and virtuosity. www.davemurphyband.com
Notes: Mess of Blues contains ten cuts, all of them chosen by Healey from what he considered “audience favorites,” rather than his own or his fine band’s preferred tunes. Four of these were recorded in front of audiences at the Islington Academy in London and, appropriately enough, at Healey’s Roadhouse (his club) in Toronto. The other six were cut at Studio 92 in Canada by Norm Barker and Richard Uglow.

Artist: Brandon Valdivia Home Town: Chatham Kent Ontario Current Home: Toronto Position: Drummer Year: 2008
Brandon Valdivia (age 25) plays in five bands right now. He started drumming in his hometown of Chatham at 12 years old; after collecting a music degree at Wilfrid Laurier he packed his bags and moved to the Big Smoke. His current groups include Picastro, Friendlyness and the Human Rights, Place Hands, Not the Wind Not the Flag, and Slowly, Slowly.
Not a showboat, it’s Brandon’s stellar craft and control that sets him apart from other percussionists. He can play with the subtlety of a kiss or the power of an electrical storm, often within seconds of each other.
He’s probably best known for his work with Picastro (Owen Pallett is a former member.) They are going on a European tour this month to support their latest disc, ‘Whore Luck’.

The Led Zeppelin tribute Black Dog has been performing all over Canada and U.S. for the past 10 years. Black Dog was featured in the Canadian music artists’ 5440 ‘Animal In Pain’ music video which was broadcast worldwide and still appears on the band’s official website.
Black Dog’s show consists of look a like costumes of the Rock Gods themselves. Vocalist Kevin McWatters bears a striking resemblance to Robert Plant. His vocal style and range emulate Zeppelin’s 70s fame. Guitarist Frank Longe (formerly of L.A.) has mastered Jimmy Page’s art through 15 years of playing. He has Les Paul and double neck guitars.
The John Paul Jones bottom end is held down nicely by bass player J.Z. Taine who has many years of professional music experience. Black Dog is a must see for any Zeppelin fan!

Home: Chatham Project: Cover Band Year: 2008 era
Members: Scott Campbell – Lead Vocals Dave – bass guitar, vocals; Mitch Robinson – Lead guitar, vocals Novo Chile – Keyboards, Vocals Rich Gandalph – Drums
Blueswraith had it’s start more than 4 years ago when former guitarist Joe Tattoo and drummer Rich Gandalf formed the band. In December of 2006, the band members went their separate ways due to some unresolvable issues. (The other three members formed a band called the RawkDawgs before changing their name to StraightEdge. Check out their Myspace site and then go see them at a show, they’re a damn good band!).
Then, in the spring of 2007, Rich G. began the process of restoring Blueswraith. but with new band members. All of the members have many years of experience, both on stage and in the recording studio. Blueswraith is still doing covers of the great Blues and Classic Rock from the 60’s and 70’s, but stay tuned to hear some band orignals in the not too distant future as well. We’ll soon be bringing you music from “back in the day”, as well as some new “Classic Rock”.

Words : Dead End Charlie is a group of musicians from Southwestern Ontario whose sound is a direct result of music they grew up listening to.
Their goal is to make music that they would have been listening to and buying as kids. What better way to stay young forever than to live through heavy rock n’ roll! That’s just what Dead End Charlie does.
They deliver today’s music through the aid of a time capsule, reminiscent of such greats as Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne to AC/DC (or just about any other straight ahead hard rocking band of the era).
blog note : Paul is a great guy who I got to play with when we were all starting bands. He played drums & we almost started a band together but he lived too far away and we were too young to drive.
A great band from Windsor that deserves some love.

I Grew up with these guys and jammed with them when we were kids. They have been around for awhile but keep getting better. In March 2009, they will release an EP online entitled ‘The Tragedy: Part I’. I have heard it and it simply steps them ahead 100 percent. What they lacked before was personality in the vocals & such. I think they got the message from allot of fans who love em and they went for it. The new stuff is more dynamic, interesting, soulful, and metal how it is supposed to be. Metal can become stagnant but Nerve managed to carve their own way this time, which is refreshing for this style.
