Duo:Biugek Release: WRK Year: 2018 Genre: Experimental metal Home: Toronto From:Chatham-Kent (Grand Pointe/Pain Court)
Biugek Members Joel Caron – Keyboard, Expression Pedal Nigel Barylewicz – Drums
Chatham-Kent connection: Both guys live in Toronto, but grew up in Chatham-Kent, and both are Pain Court high school graduates. Joel & Nigel played locally in heavier bands before moving away. Each, amazingly musically talented on their own, are pushing their boundaries by joining together simply to experiment and move further into new ideas.
Notes: “For the 2nd album by Toronto group Biugek, called WRK, the drums-and-keyboards duo go deeper inside their metallic and mathematical vortex. And go to work. They aren’t laying back into the jams here, this is full on running a tight ship experimental polyrthythmic metal – a palate of dry black-and-white shadows mechanically running off course, a puzzling mind within the mind. This is fucking sick and it keeps coming at you in the best way. Picture an eccentric machinist curious what the gears can do when pushed to the limit, before they pop and pull apart in a chopper whirl of tools and die, that second before it explodes, all that study for a firework flash of time. Where perfect left turns act as alleyway shortcut savvy, blueprint navigation theirs alone, laying the dynamite’s trail, with the smoke cloud’s tail, where unwinding and serpentine entanglements of traps and keys pummel, work the shadows, and tease utter deterioration. For that firecracker blaze in a powdered second, they go to work.” – Kevin Cahill, Rotational Review

Notes: Lesser Known was heading into the direction of Metal with strong hints of rap induced play. All bands could learn a thing or two about presentation from them. They were probably the best run indie band in Canada. Do It Yourself motto in full swing with great posters, band fanzines, website and studio blogs, posters, merch, media, great production, you name it. They had all that perfected 10 years before anyone else could spell check their own bio.
Back in the day, Spaz was a leading force with his emotional stage presence, sucking you in to the secret circle that was the Lesser Known Zone. He had mastered this with his previous band D.N.A. which also included some members from the current band.

Rearing it’s ugly head in June 2005 “A Dying Fixation” was spawned from a simple concept…friends getting together to deliver a punishing dose of extreme groove-oriented hard-core / metal music. A new project where the main focus is to bring something a little fresh to the current scene while leaving a trail of musical destruction behind them.
They have released three tracks on ‘myspace.com’ that include Vultures, Home Town Grotesque, and Martyrs Wear Murder Weapons.

The band 7 th REIGN was formed in January 2005 by Marios Panayiotis and Brian Soulard. (ex- EIDOLON vocalist) They started off with one goal, to form the kind of band that they would want to hear and see live. They were not worried about current trends or past influences but instead concentrated on creating good music that would cross many themes and styles but was built on the best form of music……METAL!!

This Chatham based band just gets signed to Fringe Records (Toronto), Walt leaves his drumming position, Terry Hart takes over, & the new CD hits stores.
The band toured the underground scene & quickly became as talked about as the legends of Punk/Thrash/ Metal they were opening for.
The CD itself is great & is still as relevant today. The Mad were always known for writing music that had a purpose or message. The Mad were getting airplay across the country on college radio & began playing shows in the U.S.A. for the first time ever.
This is one band I looked up to. I was lucky enough to be called in to do some shows with them on bass. I was a big fan & already knew how to play their songs so that got me in the door. I was 17 & happy as s**t. We did a leg of a tour with Dayglo Abortions. NOFX played a date on the bill. They drove up in a little white van back then. Thanks for taking me out with ya guys. Interesting.
