She’s often lauded for her captivating live performance, her confident ability to connect and affect each member of her audience, her sincerity and certainly her authenticity. Robin Banks has established herself as a fearless, female force in International Blues circles recording and performing with the likes of Duke Robillard, Doug James and a long list of legendary Texas, West Coast and Chicago musicians. Notes: “The Southwest Blues Review formed in spring 2006, bringing together talent from all corners of the county.  From Ridgetown, Leia Weaver and Rob Watson made the journey to meet in Cedar Springs at Barnyard Studios with Tony Meriano and Aug Polowick, The band was brought together thanks to the vision of John Gardiner from Wallaceburg.  A year later, they firmed up the lineup with the addition of Byron Brunton of Blenheim.

The Southwest Blues Review became a local favourite for community festivals, fundraisers, art openings and any all around good time.  Their influences and inspirations include Big Mama Thornton, John Mayall, Etta James, Motown and Stax sounds, the Downchild Blues Band, Daddy Longlegs, Irma Thomas and many many more.

The Southwest Blues Review lost their drummer and founding member Tony to a sudden illness in 2010.

The band continues to perform and keeping Jeff’s music alive at festivals throughout the world.
Touring worldwide with Jeff Healey since 2002 Dave Murphy, Dan Nordermeer, Alec Fraser, & Al Webster recorded his final album in London England & Toronto Canada entitled “Mess of Blues”.

Tracks:
01. I’m Torn Down,  02. How Blue Can You Get  03. Sugar Sweet  04. Jambalaya  05. The Weight  06. Mess O’ Blues  07. It’s Only Money  08. Like A Hurricane  09. Sittin’ On Top Of The World 10. Shake, Ratte And Roll

About Dan: Guitarist extraordinaire Dan Noordermeer has also been performing in the “Dave Murphy Band” for almost a decade, and continues to dazzle audiences with his formidable talents. Originally from Chatham, Dan now resides in Hamilton. Dan is known for his Samson-like mane of hair and his wicked sense of humour. Unlikely as it seems, Dan was a full time country musician for many years before joining the band. But for those familiar with his playing it’s no surprise, since he has an uncanny ability to play every style of music with incredible authenticity, passion and virtuosity. www.davemurphyband.com

Notes: Mess of Blues contains ten cuts, all of them chosen by Healey from what he considered “audience favorites,” rather than his own or his fine band’s preferred tunes. Four of these were recorded in front of audiences at the Islington Academy in London and, appropriately enough, at Healey’s Roadhouse (his club) in Toronto. The other six were cut at Studio 92 in Canada by Norm Barker and Richard Uglow.

May 18, 2009

Artist: That Whaling Band
Release: Grateful
Year: 2005

Ray Whaling – Vocals & Guitar
Andy Martin – Bass
Joel Laprise – Drums

Whaling is the best 70’s inspired guitar jam band in general. A man with a true passion for his craft and is all about the music. I got to see him perform before I was of age since my Dad joined the band on bass for a while.  They rehearsed at my house. The music is solid & the passion is real, and to top it all off, they are down to earth guys.
Not to cut the other members short, Ray has been blessed to play with the best in the business locally. Whaling is a great band that is worth a listen.
