About: Tom Lockwood has been a working musician for over forty years. In that time he has released 5 albums under his own name, had his compositions used in television and radio productions in 33 countries around the world, has had to opportunity to work with some of Canada’s finest musicians and taught literally thousands of people to play the guitar. His 2011 Blues record with the amazing Jaimee Paul on vocals has been picked up by streaming services around the world-with digital sales in 15 of them. Bio:Sterling Blues Band is the area’s newest and most exciting blues band. Three of the members, guitarist Aug Polowick, drummer Tom Trembley, and bassist John Gardiner, were the heart of the extremely popular Southwest Blues Review, and all three have been fixtures on the Chatham-Kent music scene for many years. Newcomer to the blues scene and vocalist Kim Sterling (Miss Kimmie) is an outstanding talent that delivers bold and powerful vocals with passion and heart. The band performs traditional and contemporary tunes by blues greats Etta James, Ruthie Foster, Tina Turner, Susan Tedeschi, as well as original music written by members of the band. The band will be giggling across Southern Ontario in the months ahead and looks forward to meeting blues fans everywhere.

The workshop was part of the Literary Arts Festival hosted by St. Clair College in Chatham-Kent. * Fresh off a highly successful 2009/2010 season of The Educational Concert Series, multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and songwriter Michael Schatte will be performing regularly at schools across South Western Ontario and the Greater Toronto Area during the 2010/2011 school year. Students will be exposed to a wide variety of musical styles (blues, celtic, rock, medieval, folk etc.) demonstrated on several different instruments, and interspersed with informative commentary regarding the instruments, their history, and the way in which Michael uses them.
Being a professional musician as well as having recently completed his Masters degree in history, Michael is in a unique position to share his enthusiasm and first-rate skill in a manner both educational and highly entertaining.

Note: Live performance is at the heart of Tom’s musical career. Over the years, he has played thousands of gigs at clubs, concerts, festivals and corporate events.
He has a concert series in his home town of Chatham and hosts the annual CK Guitar Summit.
Among the many highlights are two that stand out: Being among the musicians who represented Canada at the Organization of American States conference in 2000 and playing live on a nationwide broadcast on CBC’s Disc Drive on Canada Day 2005.
Songwriter/teacher/guitarist Tom Lockwood has been playing guitar for more than 40 years. Lockwood works every conceivable genre especially blues with The Tom Lockwood Band. He has been a mainstay on the south-western Ontario music scene since relocating to Chatham, Ontario from Detroit, Michigan in 1977. Only two band members are from out of town.
Their original song “Please Don’t Ask Me To Stay”, was recorded at Polaris Studio in Windsor. Roughly 1,000 copies have been printed with about 500 sold shortly after releasing it. On the flip side of the record is Butterfat, a song written by Steve Khan of New York City.
Friends play six nights a week at bars, universities, and collages, and try to rehearse a few hours a day. With the recent addition of a brass section, they have started to add hints of jazz and blues into their set list.
Around late 1977, Friends would change their name to Gibraltor. The band played under the new name through late 1977-79.

Notes: “The Southwest Blues Review formed in spring 2006, bringing together talent from all corners of the county. From Ridgetown, Leia Weaver and Rob Watson made the journey to meet in Cedar Springs at Barnyard Studios with Tony Meriano and Aug Polowick, The band was brought together thanks to the vision of John Gardiner from Wallaceburg. A year later, they firmed up the lineup with the addition of Byron Brunton of Blenheim.
The Southwest Blues Review became a local favourite for community festivals, fundraisers, art openings and any all around good time. Their influences and inspirations include Big Mama Thornton, John Mayall, Etta James, Motown and Stax sounds, the Downchild Blues Band, Daddy Longlegs, Irma Thomas and many many more.
The Southwest Blues Review lost their drummer and founding member Tony to a sudden illness in 2010.

About Dan: Guitarist extraordinaire Dan Noordermeer has also been performing in the “Dave Murphy Band” for almost a decade, and continues to dazzle audiences with his formidable talents. Originally from Chatham, Dan now resides in Hamilton. Dan is known for his Samson-like mane of hair and his wicked sense of humour. Unlikely as it seems, Dan was a full time country musician for many years before joining the band. Notes: Mess of Blues contains ten cuts, all of them chosen by Healey from what he considered “audience favorites,” rather than his own or his fine band’s preferred tunes. Four of these were recorded in front of audiences at the Islington Academy in London and, appropriately enough, at Healey’s Roadhouse (his club) in Toronto. The other six were cut at Studio 92 in Canada by Norm Barker and Richard Uglow.

Whaling is the best 70’s inspired guitar jam band in general. A man with a true passion for his craft and is all about the music. I got to see him perform before I was of age since my Dad joined the band on bass for a while. They rehearsed at my house. The music is solid & the passion is real, and to top it all off, they are down to earth guys.
Not to cut the other members short, Ray has been blessed to play with the best in the business locally. Whaling is a great band that is worth a listen.
