Artist: Tina Pumfrey Release: That Day Date: 2018 Home: Thamesville, Ontario, Canada (Chatham-Kent) Genre:Contemporary Christian Singer/ Songwriter
Notes:
Take a familiar, everyday situation. Spin a few lyrics and chords, sprinkle with a dash of rock, blues, country; maybe some folk or gospel. It was a bit more complicated than that, but essentially, that’s it! My music looks at everyday life through the lens of faith. Whatever life throws at me, faith holds me together, and music is the constant in the background.
Since 2011, I’ve been performing around southern Ontario, solo and with my band. In 2014, we recorded “Where God Is” at Northwood Studios, with producer/engineer Matt Connell at the controls. We have just finished our second album, “That Day”, a 5-song EP. It was a great experience, working at SLR Studios in Windsor, under the guidance of Marty Bak. The final product was mastered by Greg Mindorff of Suite Sound Labs in Vancouver. It will be released on June 16, 2018.
Outdoor gospel nights, church events, festival stages, house concerts,… We are ready to bring the music to you, wherever you need it!

Band: Melody Ramblers Home: Chatham Ontario Year: 1979 Band: 1953-1994 Style: Country Music Covers
Members: (Left to right) Dan St.Pierre– Guitar Rene Brosseau – Bass Dennis Smith – Pedal Steel Michelle Wright – Vocals Bradley J. Preston – Vocals, Acoustic Larry St. Pierre – Drums
If you are from Chatham-Kent Ontario, then chances are you know that country music star MICHELLE WRIGHT got her start with the Melody Ramblers.
A very young Michelle was added to the band to help diversify the band, giving them the ability to perform songs by female country artists and relieve Brad Preston of the long nights of solid vocal duties. Michelle was new to the scene but developed quickly, later leaving to join a band an hour away, across the Canadian border in Detroit.
The group’s original line-up formed in 1953, and has included the top players from the area for the better part of 40 years. This 1979 line-up was interesting because it included many members who’s talents caught the eye of the international country music scene.
You can read up on individual members or the bands history through the years, by going to our home page and scrolling down to the list of bands/artists from Chatham.
Photo: Given to the Chatham Music Archive with permission for the Chatham Music Archive, from the St. Pierre family. Thank you to the St. Pierre family for helping us present the rich deep history of the Melody Ramblers in our community.
Demo Kid note 2010: While doing the research on the group, it was interesting to find out that my Uncle Eugene played in this band later on. In 2009, I was introduced to Rene (was the bass player for the band at the time) who is now one of the most popular pedal steel players in Canada. He played on our home demos (with Jesse V) and was just simply so pro and friendly that I was amazed I got the chance to record with a musician with such a love and experience of music.

He recorded at Eyrespace Studios while he was in town, and the local rock station was featuring one of their singles, “Friends Don’t Come Around,” at the time. As it stands now, Sal would love to make it back to Chatham and perform with his new band. Maybe the upcoming tour may see a stop in Chatham. The new album is a top notch release from this band and is worth a listen for sure.
Notes: Sal Piamonte’s music was featured in promos for Animal Planet (Discovery Channel)’s Tiger Week.
In fact, Sal also happens to be a successful psychological profiler for a provincial police force by day, and local rock star by night. Over the course of the last 10 years he has tested, interviewed and counseled everyone from prisoners, to autistic children, patients with brain damage and even paranoid schizophrenics.
But music is his first real, true love. This lifelong affair with music and the guitar began at age 5 on a trip with his mother to Australia. “I remember pretending to play the guitar on this plastic little guitar they had bought for me. When we returned to Canada, I asked my mom to buy me a real guitar and she wasted no time putting me in lessons.”

Notes from her bio.
However soon after her high school graduation, Stephanie followed the advice of well intending people and put her dream of becoming a singer/songwriter on the shelf for many years. During that time she got married and started her family as well as pursuing a career in the Social Services field. For her, it was like putting a square peg in the round hole—Stephanie couldn’t find the right job and make it stick. Along her journey, she discovered that when you are meant to do something, you will end up doing it no matter what. Finally Stephanie took the quantum leap to chase her dream of becoming a professional musician following examples like Shaina Twain.
She is a dedicated musician who continues to hone her skills by studying voice at the Royal Conservatory level, mastering the guitar, and learning more about the music industry. In addition to these things, a few years ago Stephanie took up song writing. Her songs can best be described as raw lyrics about real life. She has been compared to recording artists like Sheryl Crow with an easy listening folk rock sound.
Stephanie has just completed studio time with Brad Dugas of Revelation Sound out of Guelph. Her upcoming album of original material is available.
Enjoy this amazing new recording artist who’s music will touch your heart and soul _ * Listen/watch the preview below.

Artist: Jani Jakovac CD Release: Take Cover Year: 2004 Home: Chatham Ontario Resides: Vancouver
Notes: Jani records a collection of songs by other artists that she likes, which makes “Take Cover” a great name for this collection of covers.
Bio:
Who is this Jani anyhow? Where has she been hiding? Well, actually it is Jani (jay-nee) Jakovac (jack-o-vack) but who she is can be as tricky as the name. Because she is many things. She is a singer, songwriter, pianist, actor and an athlete to name a few. She’s funny, she’s intense, she’s energetic, she’s controlled, she’s sweet, but don’t ever get on her bad side…not so sweet. She is chic while she owns 6 pairs of slippers and wears flannels to bed. Clearly, she is a Gemini with issues.
She studied drama and played varsity volleyball at the University of Guelph in Ontario. The day after graduating, she moved to Vancouver to pursue an acting career. This led her to few acting roles and many bartending jobs. She then moved to Europe to benefit from something else she had put many years into…. volleyball. She played and coached professionally in Denmark for three years.
So, that was where she’s been “hiding”. If hiding was her intent, this would be about the only place this 6 foot blonde could have remained inconspicuous. But inconspicuous she definitely was not when she was hopping up on stages in Copenhagen and joining bands in impromptu performances.
Growing up in a house that thrived on music, it was always a part of her, a necessary element of her being. She knew she could sing, but strangely enough, she did not think it was “a big deal”. And since the only people that had ever heard her sing were friends and family, Jani assumed that they were merely being polite when they told her that she had talent. Belting out the blues or luring people into a trance with her sultry sounds was just her own act of passion. But the response to her music made it undeniably clear that people wanted to hear more. The music she writes is a soulful mix of the different styles she grew up listening to. The diverse music she appreciated were just a turn of the radio dial away from one another. The stations were numerous. The stations were from Detroit.
She grew up in the small city of Chatham, Ontario, 45 minutes over the border from the Motown. Her influences, ranging from classical to funk, are revealed in every song that she writes. Her often autobiographical lyrics leave audiences thankful for the living she has done. No, music has not been the only part of Jani’s life, but it has been the strongest, most dynamic, most necessary, always with her, traveling to every place she has been. The ever positive, vibrant, energetic Jani, admits that her music is a therapeutic device that she has used for many years to keep the smile on her face. Audiences are thrilled she has lived enough life to have stories to tell with her songs and young enough to make it interesting.

Artist: Bradley J. Preston Release: 45 RPM Single Year: 1983
Home: Chatham Ontario Genre: Country vocalist Born: 1951
Note: This is Bradley’s first professional recording.
Tracks Side A: In The Spring The Roses Always Turn Red (Dorsey Burnette) Side B: You Gave Me A Mountain (Marty Robbins)
Bradley J. Preston is currently a singer with the popular local country band “The Melody Ramblers”.
He has taken an extra step by recording a single and producing 1000 copies at his own expense of $5,000. This effort to branch out has taken Mr. Bradley to a career touring the U.S.A., Canada, and over seas.
In the 1970’s, Chatham was a hot spot for musicians with around 400 people in the local Union. There were more venues (Clubs, bars, legions etc) to play in Chatham than most surrounding cities offered. Bands would play six nights a week at a venue than move on to the next. They would have the calendar year booked solid before the year started.
Then, the drinking laws changed and venues were only able to offer bands two to three nights in a row to play. If you wanted to make a living playing music, you now had to travel to find the work. Bradley chose to pursue music and this took him on a journey into places he had never been before. It was a risk, a chance, and an adventure. Bradley went for it. S. Beaulieu

Tracks: 01. My Reflection In Your Eyes 02. Too High To Climb (feat. Toni Anderson)
Album Notes:
Apmar Music is excited to announce that two new songs are now available with the release of Shawn Daudlin’s promotional CD. Shawn’s upcoming full-length CD, which will include the two singles, will be released within the next few months.
The promotional release showcases two new tracks. ‘My Reflection in Your Eyes’ is a beautiful, acoustic driven ballad. Shawn sings about the loss of love and as we all know, love never leaves quickly, but like an unwelcome dinner guest, takes its time exiting. ‘My Reflection in Your Eyes’ recently received a honorable mention from the Billboard Songwriting Contest.
With tongue firmly held in cheek, Shawn and soul singer Toni Anderson proudly wave the break-up flag with ‘Too High To Climb’. This retro disco tune laughs in the face of a love that lasts forever. After all, some mountains are just too high to climb!
You can’t help but smile when you listen to the music of Shawn Daudlin. He is an artist whose musical influence draws upon the very roots of what music is today. From the first note sung, it is apparent that Shawn is a singer who loves what he does and has a distinct appreciation for music.
Together with Producer/Songwriter Alan Poaps (Apmar Music), Shawn has collaborated on many recording projects, writing lyrics and melodies to compliment the arrangements written by Alan. Some of Toronto’s finest players have worked with this duo. Talented musicians, who have toured with the likes of Bruce Cockburn, Holly Cole and Big Sugar, provide the riffs and grooves.
Shawn’s self-titled, debut recording, received regular airplay on radio in Germany, Denmark and Southwestern Ontario. Extensive internet promotion through radio and Pop Music fan sites have helped to create awareness of Shawn’s music and broaden his audience base. Bio You can’t help but smile when you listen to the music of Shawn Daudlin. He is an artist whose musical influence spans decades. From the first note sung, it is apparent that Shawn is a singer who loves what he does and has a distinct appreciation for Pop music.
Shawn was born in Chatham, Ontario. Having a musician/songwriter for a father, who was popular locally, Shawn grew up not only listening to but singing along with all styles of music. At a very early age he captured the attention of his Elementary School Music Teacher. Before long he was asked to sing a solo in the Christmas concert and became an active member in the school choir. Many changes marked Shawn’s early teenage years. His family relocated to the small town of Tilbury, Ontario and at 15, he was plunged into the “High School” experience. Frustrated by the fact that his new school had cancelled the music program the previous year, Shawn enrolled in Theatre Arts. Having had some acting experience in Community Theatre, he embraced this new found passion. His teacher, Lynn Fisher, worked with him extensively to improve his craft. Shawn’s hard work paid off with lead roles in many of the plays performed at his high school and eventually to winning an Outstanding Performance award in the Sears Drama Festival.
Except for a few guest spots with his father’s band, Shawn’s singing would take a back seat. His love for acting was undisputed and brought him to the Music Theatre Program at Sheridan College in Oakville. Everyday for the next three years, Shawn acted, danced and sang in Music Theatre productions. It was during his college years that Shawn finally decided what he wanted to do with the rest of his life. Shawn wanted to be a Recording Artist. He wanted to SING! To do this successfully, he needed to retrace his steps and revisit his Pop roots.Together with Producer/Songwriter Alan Poaps, Shawn began to plan his first recording. His only writing experience being English class poetry and the odd short story, Shawn was hesitant to put the pen to paper and start writing himself songs. Convinced that if he didn’t do it nobody else would, Shawn began to write lyrics and melodies to compliment the arrangements written by Alan Poaps. This collaboration took off like wild fire! Two years and fifty songs later, Shawn and Alan had easily enough material for three CDs. One hurtle down, but there were many more to go. Not only did they have to decide which songs they were going to use to introduce themselves, they also had to consider the many expenses they were going to incur recording them.
Temporarily putting the project on hold, Shawn and Alan took several jobs producing tracks for corporate functions, as well as creating three R&B shows for Ontario Place. The money earned from these enabled them to build their own 24 track digital recording studio, APMAR Music. The recording began. Alan was able to hire some of the best musicians in Toronto for the sessions. Talented players who have worked and toured with the likes of Bruce Cockburn, Holly Cole and Big Sugar, provided the riffs and grooves. Eager to see the release of his first recording, Shawn sang his heart out, worked diligently and waited….sometimes not so patiently. Not one to sit around and do nothing, Shawn also created the concept and design for the packaging. A team of many talents, Shawn and Alan kept their hands in all of the pots and are very proud of the end result. Shawn’s self-titled debut recording, is simply a dream realized. Joyous Pop music, often commenting on the various degrees of love and two powerful ballads, one incredibly spiritual and the other a sublime testimonial. These songs illustrate the many facets of Shawn’s voice. As his father would say, “THIS IS GOOD MUSIC!”

Artist: Cassandra Vasik Also known as Cassandra Leigh Release: 1993 – Feels Like Home Genre: Country / Pop Home : Blenheim Ontario Canada
Cassandra Vasik is a Canadian country singer/songwriter from Blenheim, Ontario. Signed to Epic Records between 1990 and 2000, she released three studio albums for the label. In that same time span, she charted eleven singles on the Canadian country charts.
Winner of two Juno Awards.
Her second album fuses a traditional sound — like the Patsy Cline-ish opener “Sadly Mistaken” — with a modern and somewhat mysterious edge and look. The best songs feature an organic blend of acoustic and electric guitars, mandolin, fiddle, dobro, pedal steel and harmonica. Unfortunately, several others, including the lush, monster ballad “Almost Like You Cared,” resort to that dreaded synth-strings crutch. Still, every nuance of Vasik’s delivery suggests “contemporary woman,” sensitive and introspective but also self-assured and firmly in control of her own destiny. ~ Roch Parisien, All Music Guide.
All fourteen songs were written by Tim Thorney and Erica Ehm (with an assist by Ms. Vasik on several) who also produced the album. Erica Ehm was making a name for herself as MuchMusic’s (and Canada’s) first female VJ.
Highlights include Fortune Smiled On Me, a duet with Russell De Carle who was the lead singer of Canadian Country band, Prairie Oyster, Stand Your Ground, a fiddle-drenched two stepper and Lavender Hill, a beautiful waltz.

Chatham Music Archive Review:
It is not surprising that this is a very rich release from Sarah considering her passion and educated musical background. This release is fresh in that it blends the modern styles with retro vibes. It is experimental, but never crosses the line of becoming strange or lost. Simply put, it is a beautiful and complete work of art. I don’t want to use the words mature when describing music, but Sarah has grown as a musician quickly and is becoming an innovator of our scene.
The best part of the CD is that her vocal styling and voice is original. When you hit play, you know it is Sarah singing. I am really curious and excited to hear what is next for her music. Keep your ear out.
Sarah is very active in the live music scene and is always out there playing. Go see her live and look for the CD.
Shawn.

Official Bio:
Drawing comparisons to both Billie Holiday and Feist, musician Sarah Hiltz is a paradoxical blend of old world and modernity. She’s been praised for her ability to tell a story through song, but isn’t afraid to take risks when she performs.
While her tasteful and sometimes unexpected note choices have made Sarah an in demand session vocalist, she is now turning her focus onto her own collection of originals and is in pre-production for her first full-length release. In the meantime, Sarah continues to write and study piano, as well as perform regularly as one half of an acoustic duo.
Sarah has been performing since childhood and composing for almost as long. At the age of thirteen, she won the Chatham-Kent Song Contest to write the official song of Chatham-Kent. Following the competition, she recorded her first independent record of all original tunes and released it in the fall of 2001. In 2004, Sarah’s writing was again recognized when she placed first at the Kiwanis Music festival in the original composition category.
Later that year, Sarah moved to Toronto to study voice at the world-renowned Humber College Jazz Program. At the same time, Sarah was the vocalist for the Jef Kearns Four, a jazz quartet that performed in her hometown, Chatham. She went on to host a weekly jazz evening at the William Street Café in the fall of 2006, leading a quartet under her own name. In no time the evening grew into success, drawing people every Monday night to brave the Canadian cold in favour of warm vocals and hot coffee.
