Cornstalk ran for a few years and was the biggest outdoor bash in the area during those years. Cornstalk drew 5000-8000 people.

Notes:
Outdoor parties of this nature were the norm in the 1990’s, put on by a private group or person, on private property. A typical party was 200-800 people, featuring live cover bands, a pig roast and a small $5 cover.

These events came to an end, an end of an era. Society had changed and law enforcement was cracking down. Add the liability, risks, insurance, bylaws, rising costs, permits, food & safety regulations, new staging laws, and the hassle of putting on such an event was no longer worth it unless the government was stepping in to make a profit off it.

About The bands:

Town Krier: Performed at the Aberdeen between 1983-1986. They still get together once or twice a year. Members include Billy Wolsing (Drums), Chris ‘Hymie’ Zelina (Bass & Vocals), & Herby Classens (Guitar).

Lyra: Performed at the Aberdeen in the late 1980’s. A great local rock band who’s members later went on to perform in Sweet Fa, Rockus, Blu Bones, Thunder Circus, Killer Dwarfs, Fear Disorder, Tangled Puppet, Manpower, & Teethin’ Freaks.

Electric Voodoo: Rocked the Aberdeen through the 90’s, mostly as a Jimmi Hendrix tribute. A popular true party staple band, and the soul of rock & roll for Chatham. Dave Major & Mitch Robinson will return. Bass player is unknown at this time, they had some great players & they will let us know who is available to attend.

Beggars Opera: Another great band from the Aberdeen 90’s era. Members also continue to be a part of many great bands out there today.

Def Bombs: Currently London’s most popular rock cover band, including members from Syre, Helix, Sven Gali, Leather Snake, & Before The Damned). Excited to have them perform.

The Official tribute to Chatham’s legendary Rock Bar, the Aberdeen.

* The show began at 8pm to a full house. Some of the bands on the bill were reuniting for the first time in years. Lyra reunited for the first time in 28 years and played flawlessly. Beggar’s Opera, Foster Child, & Electric Voodoo all shared in their respective reunions. The Aberdeen had closed 20 years ago this year.

* Highlights included the people who attended. It was a love fest of a true nature, in that all that attended, were attendee’s from back in the day. Many people signed the huge Aberdeen reunion sign, which can be seen at Bar Out Back, in Chatham.

The Scoop: This is Mitch’s latest line-up for the ‘Electric Voodoo’ name which he has been jamming under for many years. The Voodoo are one of the areas most popular party/cover bands.
  Mitch has been busy getting his solo CD ready on the sidelines & Nick was in the studio doing keys for the Julie Ross record ‘Middle Ground’.
   Mitch is verging on local legend status as a true road warrior. This time around, they drop the Jimmi Hendrix tribute act & open the doors to an ‘anything goes’ vibe. Look for Mitch’s solo album coming soon called “Brother With A Record”.

The Scoop : In the late 80’s & early 90’s, if you wanted to rock then you knew who Mitch & the boys were, & the Aberdeen was the place where it went down. Electric Voodoo was the bar band at it’s best. A perfect Jimi Hendrix tribute with long, long open jams & lots of beer around.
   The CD contains some covers but it is the perfect gift to take home to remember these days. Guns & Roses & Glam bands ruled the day & Electric Voodoo became the instant home town party band, Not only for providing the best in entertainment, but also for being the nicest guys around.
The CD was recorded by Rick Neufeld @ Sam’s Hotel In Wallaceburg.
