Cornstalk 1997 Concert Blenheim Ontario

April 6, 2017

Event: Cornstalk
Date: August 9th, 1997

Cornstalk ran for a few years and was the biggest outdoor bash in the area during those years. Cornstalk drew 5000-8000 people.

Bands performing:
* Destroyer (Kiss tribute)
* Hells Bells (AC/DC Tribute)
* Exodus (Bob Marley Tribute)
* Electric Voodoo (Jimmi Hendrix Tribute)
* Hip Mission (Tragically Hip Tribute)
* Whaling (Neill Young Tribute)
* Chic Tunes
* Tangled Puppet (picture)
* Beggars Opera
* Foster Child (Picture)
* Rumblefish
* This End Up
* Social Slander
* Luxury Christ
* Square Root of Margaret (Picture)
* Evil Empire (R.A.T.M Tribute) (Picture)
* Gates of Rage (Picture)
Notes:
Outdoor parties of this nature were the norm in the 1990’s, put on by a private group or person, on private property. A typical party was 200-800 people, featuring live cover bands, a pig roast and a small $5 cover.

These events came to an end, an end of an era. Society had changed and law enforcement was cracking down. Add the liability, risks, insurance, bylaws, rising costs, permits, food & safety regulations, new staging laws, and the hassle of putting on such an event was no longer worth it unless the government was stepping in to make a profit off it.

Rick Neufeld Music 2013

September 9, 2013

rickneufeld_2013

Artist: Rick Neufeld
Band: Pink Floyd Niagra (Tribute band)
Instruments: Vocals/Electric/Acoustic Guitars/Electronic Drums
Local connection: Lived in Wallaceburg for many years playing in bands & running a recording studio there.

Bio:
Rick was born November 21, 1958. He grew up on a quaint greenhouse farm in Leamington, Ontario where he built his first drum set out of fertilizer barrels and plastic tablecloths at the age of 13. Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Run Through The Jungle” was the first song he played on his innovative “kit”.

Rick’s career in music has included stints in many bands. From ’74 to ’79, he was the drummer and vocalist in Fortress. Rick had the same duties in Spectrum from ’80 to ’85. In ‘86, Rick had the lead vocal responsibilities in Centryx. Shoot First was Rick’s next band, doing drums and lead vocals from ’87 to ’89. He performed both drums and lead vocals from ’90 to ’92 with The Skinny Pigs. During the period of ’92 to ’02, Rick played a solo act; and did some lead vocals and rhythm guitar with Leave It To Beaver.

Spectrum was Rick’s next stop, from ’02 to ’07, taking on acoustic guitar and vocal positions in that group. From 1985 to 2000, Rick performed on and wrote for the following albums: Dr. Gloom 1; Dr. Gloom 2; Mercy Me; Zeus and Apollo; Sky Music; Zeus and Apollo Oracles; and Laid Back Leftovers.

Throughout this time, Rick also had an independent sound and lighting company and numerous demo-recording studios. He has teamed up once again with recording college colleagues Greg Johns and Larry Swiercz (both from Spectrum), and former band mate Rob Wells, also an alumnus of Spectrum to perform with Pink Floyd Niagara as rhythm guitarist, percussionist and vocalist.

(Editors Note: Rick recorded our very first demo for Foster Child in 1991 at his garage studio in Wallaceburg. A great guy to meet & I am sure a few locals are wondering what Rick is up to since moving away. Well, he is still very involved in music. best wishes to him.)
