Foster Child – Self Titles CD (1996)

May 4, 2009

Artist : Foster Child

Music Style : Rock
Date : 1996

Shawn Beaulieu – vocals, guitars
Mat Drew – Vocals, Percussion

Jesse Verleye – Vocals, Bass
Chuck Young – Drums

The Demo :  This is their second demo, Recorded & Produced by Steve Eyres.
The original 3 thrash kids (Shawn,Jesse,Chuck) recruited Jay & Mat from the local cover band ‘Soul Kitchen’.
Due to the lack of venues having original music, the band doubled as a cover band with originals thrown in to keep them playing every weekend. The band found themselves booked endlessly packing venues all over Ontario for the next 2 years including a few Cornstalks, KOA Bash’s,  & a handfull of arena shows.
The band did a summer tour of Ontario in support of this demo & heavy playing everywhere & anywhere lead to a good following.
Although the plan was to gain more exposure by playing covers & getting into more clubs from this, they found covers were consuming all their time. by 1997, members started up original projects ‘Janet Theory’ & ‘Whatever’, while keeping Foster Child just a cover band once in a while until 1999 when their original projects took on life.

Sarah was kind enough to come over & record backing vocals on “Will You Forgive Me In The end”, a new song I wrote with Jesse V. We did this in April. She did backing vocals on ‘Just’ by FL3P (First line Third Planet) that stood out and made me take notice.
FL3P was a short lived band, (around 2004)  but a great band. The drummer (Chuck Young) has been a good friend & long time band mate beginning with me in ‘Foster Child’ in 1991 to The Janet Theory & Dead Girls Union.
The track Sarah Hiltz sings on with FL3P is called ‘Just’ and can be heard here.

Yep, they called it a day. I went to show Bob & Keegan some love by attending their last show as the R.C.K. at the KBD Hall in Chatham a month ago.

It was good to catch more good local underground bands on the bill, like Davis Block & 100 Proof.
