Bio: After growing up on the streets of Chatham Ontario, attending high school and finishing with no fixed address, attending numerous universities in both the US and Canada with a goal of football and wrestling, being a Zodiac pilot for Greenpeace “Save the Whales” and a short term in a Newfoundland jail for anti-sealing protests, Jim turned his attention to playing music. With his first test being in Calgary Alberta at the 1st Studio 1/ Keen Craft (Long and Mcquade) music award he walked away with top prize as a member of the duo “Bow River Lumber Company.” This was not a small feat as names such as Jan Arden, Oliver Krall, Scott Parsons and Jenny Allen were also on the program.
(Hi; Jim here….I bet you’re thinking “If this guy’s so great why have I never heard of him?” That’s simple. You never heard of me because just as I was starting to “make it” I went through a relationship loss, and I broke. Plain and simple. I sold all my gear and tried to quit the business. Did too for about 10 years. But as a friend of mine from the Nanaimo Folk club said “The big dog is back.” That’s all I want to say on the matter. I know some will think its not cool to bring it up but one thing I have learned is when there is a giant elephant in the room and nobody talks about it, it only get bigger. If you want to know more, ask me. Now, back to the important stuff.)
Jim has opened for Utah Phillips, Rosalie Sorrels, Connie Calder, Michael Lewis, and Scott Parsons, to name a few. His style and musical influences include suc all-time-greats as Stan Rogers, Harry Chapin, Chris De Berg, John Prine, and James Taylor.
Jim’s been around folk festivals, having played the Home County Festival in London Ontario, Blackfalds Folk Festival in Alberta and Vancouver Island Folk Festival and others. He has played universities from Windsor to Ottawa, from London to Thunder Bay to Calgary. He has been featured in L.A. at the Pier 1 Show, and was a band member with groups such as Hero, Panic and The Bow River Lumber Company. His first love has always been a singer-songwriter writing music to bring images to his listeners’ minds.

Notes from her bio.
However soon after her high school graduation, Stephanie followed the advice of well intending people and put her dream of becoming a singer/songwriter on the shelf for many years. During that time she got married and started her family as well as pursuing a career in the Social Services field. For her, it was like putting a square peg in the round hole—Stephanie couldn’t find the right job and make it stick. Along her journey, she discovered that when you are meant to do something, you will end up doing it no matter what. Finally Stephanie took the quantum leap to chase her dream of becoming a professional musician following examples like Shaina Twain.
She is a dedicated musician who continues to hone her skills by studying voice at the Royal Conservatory level, mastering the guitar, and learning more about the music industry. In addition to these things, a few years ago Stephanie took up song writing. Her songs can best be described as raw lyrics about real life. She has been compared to recording artists like Sheryl Crow with an easy listening folk rock sound.
Stephanie has just completed studio time with Brad Dugas of Revelation Sound out of Guelph. Her upcoming album of original material is available.
Enjoy this amazing new recording artist who’s music will touch your heart and soul

Bio
Margaret Wysman was born and raised in Chatham, Ontario, and she is the youngest of nine siblings.
From 1985 to 1991 Margaret attended The University of Western Ontario, worked in molecular genetics research at UWO for a couple of years, taught laboratory courses, and in 1991, did a short stint as a field ecologist for the Ministry of Natural Resources in Wingham, Ontario. Although she was a science major in Western’s Ecology and Evolution program, Margaret loved variety, and consequently, she enrolled in English Literature and psychology courses and taught herself to play the guitar. From 1987 until 1993 she belonged to a Christian folk group, The 53RD Musicians. Margaret played some key musical roles in this group. In addition to creating many new harmonies and arrangements for the songs in their repertoire, she sang, played guitar, recorder, penny whistle, mandolin, and often provided comic relief.
From August of 1997 to March of 1999 some 25 songs were penned and performed by Margaret at a variety of venues in Bruce, Grey and Kent Counties. She has performed for several events at the CAW Family Education Centre in Port Elgin, including anniversaries of the Montreal Massacre, The Women’s International Dinners, political rallies for Ontario Teachers’ Federations, and CAW Cultural Nights. She has been a regular performer at The Songbird Cafe in Durham, at The Storybook Cafe in Southampton and for the Candlelight Music Series in Southampton. Also, she has opened for Keating-Jones at the annual Sing Out Cafe at Glencolton Farms and has played for the students at Saugeen District Secondary several times.
Band: The Dave Murphy Band CD Release: Waiting For Dave Year: 1996 Genre: Funk, rock & blues Home: Toronto/Hamilton
Chatham Connection: Guitarist Dan Noordermeer is from Chatham. Dan played locally with ‘River Road’, was a long time member of the Jeff Healey Blues Band, and has done session work on several CD releases.
About Chatham’s own Dan Noordermeer:
Guitarist extraordinaire Dan Noordermeer has been with the band for almost a decade, and continues to dazzle audiences with his formidable talents. Originally from Chatham, Dan now resides in Hamilton. Dan is known for his Samson-like mane of hair and his wicked sense of humour. Unlikely as it seems, Dan was a full time country musician for many years before joining the band. But for those familiar with his playing it’s no surprise, since he has an uncanny ability to play every style of music with incredible authenticity, passion and virtuosity.
CD & band notes:
Over 200 shows a year quickly earned the band its reputation as one of the most talented, versatile and hardest working acts in the business.
In the summer of 1996 the band released its first album entitled “Waiting for Dave.” The ten original tracks display the broad range of the group’s influences and talents. Later that same year, a dream came true for the band when they opened for their hero, James Brown. Since then the band has opened for numerous other acts, including The Bare Naked Ladies.
In 1997, the band made the prestigious Orbit Room in downtown Toronto their new home for weekly performances, where the band continues to perform on Friday nights. It was here, on a stage complete with a house Hammond organ, that the band really began to stretch out musically, and since then there have been many incredible shows featuring the band at their spontaneous and improvisational best. In early 1998, exhausted by years of nonstop performing, the band took a four-month break while Dave travelled around the world.

Name: Bob Lucier CD Release: Eleven Favorites Circa: 2002 Genre: Country
Home: Chatham-Kent (Grande Pointe) Resides: Toronto area
About Bob: Bobby Lucier has been a leader in steel guitar and is world renowned for his unique style and ability. Bob was the resident Steel Player for “The Tommy Hunter Show“ when it aired on the CBC television network in Canada for many years.
Gordie Tapp From ‘Hee Haw’ Writes Liner Notes For CD In 1952, when we started Main Street Jamboree, I became deeply engrossed in Country Music.
I heard my first steel guitar in the hands of Bobby Wingrove and Lloyd Banks. It rapidly became my favorite instrument. In 1969 I arrived in Nashville to begin Hee Haw and thought I’d gone to steel guitar heaven. I worked with such famous names as Curly Chalker, Buddy Emmons, Lloyd Green, John Hughey etc… When I talked to them about their instruments and abilities they told me there was a guy up in Canada who had equal ability.
I returned to Canada to guest on a well received Country TV show and met the young man they were talking about. If you ask Bobby Lucier for a sixteen bar turnaround he makes it sound like a symphony but not at the expense of your vocal presentation and the audience leaves thinking how great you are because of the intricate steel guitar background he provides.
He features four string harmony melodies with just a touch of two of his favorites, Jimmy Day and Weldon Myrick, but it’s his own interpretations that makes him unique.
A master steel guitar technician. A master of Cabinetry (his real income). I’m glad he’s presenting this new C.D.. May I introduce to you Bobby Lucier.
Enjoy! Gordie Tapp

Artist: Jani Jakovac CD Release: Take Cover Year: 2004 Home: Chatham Ontario Resides: Vancouver
Notes: Jani records a collection of songs by other artists that she likes, which makes “Take Cover” a great name for this collection of covers.
Bio:
Who is this Jani anyhow? Where has she been hiding? Well, actually it is Jani (jay-nee) Jakovac (jack-o-vack) but who she is can be as tricky as the name. Because she is many things. She is a singer, songwriter, pianist, actor and an athlete to name a few. She’s funny, she’s intense, she’s energetic, she’s controlled, she’s sweet, but don’t ever get on her bad side…not so sweet. She is chic while she owns 6 pairs of slippers and wears flannels to bed. Clearly, she is a Gemini with issues.
She studied drama and played varsity volleyball at the University of Guelph in Ontario. The day after graduating, she moved to Vancouver to pursue an acting career. This led her to few acting roles and many bartending jobs. She then moved to Europe to benefit from something else she had put many years into…. volleyball. She played and coached professionally in Denmark for three years.
So, that was where she’s been “hiding”. If hiding was her intent, this would be about the only place this 6 foot blonde could have remained inconspicuous. But inconspicuous she definitely was not when she was hopping up on stages in Copenhagen and joining bands in impromptu performances.
Growing up in a house that thrived on music, it was always a part of her, a necessary element of her being. She knew she could sing, but strangely enough, she did not think it was “a big deal”. And since the only people that had ever heard her sing were friends and family, Jani assumed that they were merely being polite when they told her that she had talent. Belting out the blues or luring people into a trance with her sultry sounds was just her own act of passion. But the response to her music made it undeniably clear that people wanted to hear more. The music she writes is a soulful mix of the different styles she grew up listening to. The diverse music she appreciated were just a turn of the radio dial away from one another. The stations were numerous. The stations were from Detroit.
She grew up in the small city of Chatham, Ontario, 45 minutes over the border from the Motown. Her influences, ranging from classical to funk, are revealed in every song that she writes. Her often autobiographical lyrics leave audiences thankful for the living she has done. No, music has not been the only part of Jani’s life, but it has been the strongest, most dynamic, most necessary, always with her, traveling to every place she has been. The ever positive, vibrant, energetic Jani, admits that her music is a therapeutic device that she has used for many years to keep the smile on her face. Audiences are thrilled she has lived enough life to have stories to tell with her songs and young enough to make it interesting.

Band: Social Code Release: ROCK ‘N’ ROLL Date: 2009 Style: Rock Home: Alberta Chatham Connection: Travis Nesbitt (vocals) was born and raised in Chatham Ontario Canada.
Band Members:
Travis Nesbitt – Vocals
Logan Jacobs – Bass
Ben Shillabeer – Drums
Morgan Gies – Guitar
Official band note: During the “freezing cold of an Edmonton winter” with producer John Travis, who made a name for himself working with such heavyweights as Kid Rock, Buckcherry and Sugar Ray. It strips away the pop punk and radio flavour-of-the-day tracks that Social Code had been known for, and delivers the red meat of the music. From the gloriously grinding and noisy first single Satisfied and the catchy as all hell Buy Buy Baby to the heavy, boogie rocker Fight For Love and the surefire heartbreak, prairie rock anthem I’m Not OK, the 10 tracks draw on influences as seminal as Springsteen, Zeppelin, The Stones, Cheap Trick and The Black Crowes while being entirely true to the band’s own sound.
The band will be playing Chatham Sunday Nov.22 2009 at Encore.
Track Listing:
Rock ‘N’ Roll
Nothing Left To Lose

Mixed by Mike Fraser
Additional Production on “Satisfied” & “I’m Not Ok” by Logan Jacobs
Note: I have been lucky enough to share shows with Social Code a few times and I can tell you that they are a great bunch of guys who are appreciative of the scene. Usually headliners get cocky and fill the stage with gear leaving opening bands with little room to do anything. When playing with these guys, they offered to share drum kits and do whatever possible to make it easiest for all bands to get a fair shake in stage show and ease of transitions. These guys deserve your support and it is nice to see that they have maintained their Canadian courtesy & politeness despite such a jaded world they travel upon. I am not a band ass kisser by any means, these guys have worked hard and do it the right way. S. Beaulieu

12. I Mean What I Say
13. I Can’t Wait
Notes: Even after four decades of songwriting, and with over 200 songs to her credit, Sylvia says she is not a prolific songwriter. Still, “Down At The Fair” features two of her finest songs: the spiritual “Tell My Lord” (with the magnificent line, “I can tell my Lord things I couldn’t tell my mother”) and the remarkable character sketch, “Marie Antoinette.”
The latter is a story of a deluded woman working as a maid in a hotel who believes that in a perfect world she’d be the Queen of France. The song is a reminder that all around us are people whose lives we know nothing about, and some of them are quite delusional.
“When I was a kid I knew a girl who was adopted, and her name was Marie Antoinette,” Sylvia explains. “She truly believed she was descended from the Queen of France. I thought that was an interesting concept. The line ‘Off with their heads’ gets a laugh from audiences.”

Quartette was formed for a concert at Toronto’s Harbourfront in the summer of 1993. The following year, the group received the Canadian Country Music Association’s award for best vocal collaboration. Artist: Shawn Daudlin Release: Radio Release Year: 2007 Type: Pop
Born: Chatham Kent Ontario Canada Resides: Toronto area.
Tracks: 01. My Reflection In Your Eyes 02. Too High To Climb (feat. Toni Anderson)
Album Notes:
Apmar Music is excited to announce that two new songs are now available with the release of Shawn Daudlin’s promotional CD. Shawn’s upcoming full-length CD, which will include the two singles, will be released within the next few months.
The promotional release showcases two new tracks. ‘My Reflection in Your Eyes’ is a beautiful, acoustic driven ballad. Shawn sings about the loss of love and as we all know, love never leaves quickly, but like an unwelcome dinner guest, takes its time exiting. ‘My Reflection in Your Eyes’ recently received a honorable mention from the Billboard Songwriting Contest.
With tongue firmly held in cheek, Shawn and soul singer Toni Anderson proudly wave the break-up flag with ‘Too High To Climb’. This retro disco tune laughs in the face of a love that lasts forever. After all, some mountains are just too high to climb!
You can’t help but smile when you listen to the music of Shawn Daudlin. He is an artist whose musical influence draws upon the very roots of what music is today. From the first note sung, it is apparent that Shawn is a singer who loves what he does and has a distinct appreciation for music.
Together with Producer/Songwriter Alan Poaps (Apmar Music), Shawn has collaborated on many recording projects, writing lyrics and melodies to compliment the arrangements written by Alan. Some of Toronto’s finest players have worked with this duo. Talented musicians, who have toured with the likes of Bruce Cockburn, Holly Cole and Big Sugar, provide the riffs and grooves.
Shawn’s self-titled, debut recording, received regular airplay on radio in Germany, Denmark and Southwestern Ontario. Extensive internet promotion through radio and Pop Music fan sites have helped to create awareness of Shawn’s music and broaden his audience base. Artists: The Laws Releases: Ride It Out Year: 2007 Connection: John Law was born in Chatham Ontario.
John Law – vocals, guitar, mandolin
Michele Law – vocals, bass
Note: Recorded in Nashville with producer Regie Hamm. The Laws trademark “tight-as-a-glove” harmony singing is highlighted throughout the 11 songs.
…..Cut to 2007, and John and Michele are not only husband and wife but are also partners in music, performing as The Laws and getting ready to make a strong move for greater recognition in the Americana ranks in this country behind a typically ambitious touring schedule (200-plus nights a year on the road) and a stirring new album for their own label, JML Music, titled Ride It Out. The duo’s fifth long player, Ride It Out is noticeably lacking any false notes in its compelling original songs, empathetic musicianship and emotionally charged vocal performances.
Recorded in Nashville with producer/writer Regie Hamm, and co-written with some of Music City’s top tunesmiths, Ride It Out showcases all the Laws’ strengths. Stylistically its songs range far and wide within a roots framework. Smooth country folk powers the album opening “Am I Still the One”; “Put Some Love Into It” is a jazz -tinged frolic keyed by Michele’s saucy vocal; the guitar-mandolin instrumental “Texacadia” is a Nickel Creek-style display of assured, hot pickin’; the classic country-tinged “Too Lonesome to Cry” features lyrics as simple, direct and devastating as the Steve Earle of “Valentine’s Day” and “Hometown Blues”; and, to close things out, “Getting Over You” is a bopping little folk-flavored ditty that evinces an ironic, Steve Goodman-like sense of the absurd in its account of someone doing everything but getting over a lost love. Vocally, Michele ranges from a soothing, plaintive, Emmylou Harris-like harmony (“Am I Still the One”) to assertive, Martina McBride-style belting (“Getting Over You”), whereas John’s rich, nasally tenor bears some semblance to that of the estimable Texas craftsman and New Traditionalist pioneer Radney Foster. And despite the presence of a few other players on the album, Ride It Out has the intimate feel of a Laws stage show, where the only sounds come from the duo’s voices and instruments.
John and Michele, who have become accustomed to living in their van (in fact, their personal possessions are in storage in Canada; they are, in essence, homeless), have made a commitment of sorts by putting down roots in Nashville, where they have rented an apartment and have signed a publishing deal with SWITR, Inc.
Not least of the Laws’ selling points is their acumen in the kitchen. They published a cookbook and have appeared on numerous cooking shows through the years, generating almost as much press for their culinary skills as for their music. They also offer shows that are part cooking workshop, part musical performance. This sprang from their determination to eat healthy while touring constantly.
Cooking or music? Music or cooking? At one point that might have been a tossup. Now, however, with the assured, resonant performances on exhibit on Ride It Out, it appears the Laws are really ready to start cooking. But not in the kitchen

For his part, Chatham, Ontario-born John had a lifelong interest in music, but his exposure to it as a child was limited. His father had a Roger Miller greatest hits album, and a Johnny Cash album, and that was all. But John learned every nuance of both records, and he became infatuated with the guitar after being inspired by his sixth grade teacher, who often entertained the class with Bob Dylan tunes played on “a big ol’ electric Gretsch guitar,” according to John. “That did it for me; that hooked me. I just wanted to play guitar after that.”
John honed his instrumental skills over the next few years, a turning point coming when he was injured in a motorcycle accident at age 16. “That’s when I really got into guitar and started putting bands together because I couldn’t do much else. I just played in rock ‘n’ roll bands, ’70s rock ‘n’ roll style stuff. Neil Young was a big influence and I always played harmonica and guitar at parties, with friends. But the band was mostly rock ‘n’ roll.” Songwriting, he adds, was an afterthought: “There’s a couple of guys who did write original stuff, but I was always the guitar player or thinking of a bridge or something, a new direction–not really getting credit for writing bridges, but I didn’t know you could! I was always the guitar picker to put on a little sweetener to their songs. That was about it.”
John then moved to Toronto to play the street and eventually put together a Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young cover band that toured throughout Canada for seven years. During that time he was also getting into American roots music through recordings by Doc Watson and Tony Rice, among others.
When John and Michele got together they moved across Canada to British Columbia where John started playing guitar and mandolin with roots country songwriter, Joe Charron.
“John and I decided together that music was such a big part of his life that I wanted to be part of that too,” Michele explains. “We had a five-year plan, and he taught me to play guitar, how to play bass–we’d have friends over to jam and it was all guitar players. So I said, ‘Maybe you should teach me how to play bass.’ Then I found out that I’m the third chick bass player in my family. Isn’t that freaky?”
On the side, for kicks, he and Michele and a couple of their musician friends put together a casual bluegrass ensemble known as One Track Mind and cut a homemade CD, Beyond the Kitchen Table. More to the point, he had taught Michele the fundamentals of the bass, and a plan began to take shape.
Michele had barely begun to learn her instrument when she filled in onstage for the Joe Charron Band’s absent bassist, at which point she also began providing harmony vocals. It was a trial by fire, but Michele proved to be a real trouper. “I got pushed into it,” she says, “but John plays at such a high level that I had to really step up to the plate.”
“We had some great opportunities in British Columbia while we were there,” Michele notes. “With this trio we were opening for some great acts, and people just kept encouraging the two of us to do our own writing. We had something special on stage. We didn’t know; we were both shy and having fun working with someone else as the front man. But we certainly listened. One day we got up and wrote two songs and just kind of got the bug. And the first time you do your own music on stage and people actually clap and like it, you realize, Yeah, this isn’t bad at all. This could be fun.”
John and Michele continued to write and began performing as a duo throughout British Columbia. Their recording career began with their debut, Estimated Time of Revival, recorded at Randy Bachman’s studio, in 2000.

Husband and wife singer songwriters, The Laws, exploded onto the Canadian music scene in 2000 with the release of their first independent CD, Estimated Time of Revival, recorded at Randy Bachman’s Salt Spring Island, British Columbia studio. They were featured in major newspapers across the country (Calgary Herald, National Post, Ottawa Citizen) in support of their first cross-Canada tour. It was during this first ‘cross Canada tour that they were spotted by an Australia booking agent who booked them on the spot! They’ve since completed 3 highly successful tours in that country, including main stage at National, Tamworth, Port Fairy and Fairbridge Folk Festivals and appearances on Australia national television.
John and Michele were invited to play all of the prominent festivals in Canada (Edmonton, Winnipeg, StanFest) and toured extensively through their home country, including a 17-date Ontario theatre tour opening for Randy Bachman’s “Every Song Tells a Story” tour (supporting their 2nd CD, Two, also recorded at Randy’s studio). The Laws first foray into the United States in 2003 took them to the South West Folk Alliance Conference in Austin, TX, where they were immediately booked by every presenter in attendance! In Texas they went from opening act to headline attraction in 2 short years and were invited to perform main stage at Uncle Calvin’s Coffeehouse, the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival 2004, 2005 and 2007 and Wild Flower Festival in Dallas in 2005 and 2007.
In 2007 The Laws were the first Canadians to win the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest at MerleFest in North Carolina, with their song, Am I Still the One. Noted Nashville music critic and Nashville Star judge, Robert Oermann, had this to say about The Laws in Music Row Magazine: “Am I Still the One is a languid, swaying, romantic melody that recalls The Everly Brothers in their prime. Yes, the harmonies really are that good.”
John and Michele have received further recognition for their songwriting and are now writing for Nashville-based publishing company, SWITR, Inc. The owners of the company were so impressed by their songs that they signed them on the spot and have included them as “Rising Stars” in their new PBS series “Legends and Lyrics”, alongside such songwriting greats as Kris Kristofferson, John Hiatt, Patty Griffin and Jimmy Webb!
Great picking and harmony singing, beautifully crafted and presented lyrics, heartbreaking stories of love and loss, John & Michele’s songs cross the boundaries of country, folk, pop, bluegrass and blues and are at home performing at folk, country or bluegrass venues. Their CDs have been on high rotation throughout North America on folk and Americana stations and they’ve been in the top 10 on playlists around the world!
While it can be tough to be a traveling musician, The Laws have found a recipe for success that keeps them healthy and happy. They do their own cooking when they’re on tour, and have developed their favorite recipes into a cookbook which has, in turn, led to bookings at major food and wine events, TV appearances and feature articles for their special mix of food and music.

Notes:
This is the sophomore self-titled release through Universal Canada that spawned major radioplay for songs such as Bomb Hands, Everyday (Late November) and He Said, She Said. That latter song earned Social Code nominations at the Western Canadian Music Awards for Songwriter of the Year and Outstanding Rock Recording of the Year, and continues to get frequent spins on the country’s modern rock radio stations.
After sharing the stage with bands such as Fall Out Boy, The Used, Good Charlotte, Ten Second Epic and Alexisonfire, Canadian punk-rockers drop their new highly-anticipated album
It’s more Social Code than anything we’ve ever done, asserts Nesbitt, who also designed the record’s artwork. This album is Social Code. The album, which was mixed by Arnold Lanni (Our Lady Peace, Simple Plan) and Mike Fraser (Metallica, AC/DC, Hinder), netted Social Code a deal with Universal Music, which will release it on May 8. And as for all the people who told them they couldn’t do it, all the inner turmoil and all the moments of lost direction? They’re all lessons that have made Social Code, stronger, better and wiser.
